Re: First Friday Forum at the Pollard Library

Date: Friday, April 4, 2014 Coffee with the Library Director 10AM – 11 AM

          Feature Film 11 AM – 1PM

Title: Library to Host First Friday Forums Starting In April

Place: Pollard Memorial Library, 401 Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA 01852

Do you have any questions or suggestions for your local library? Now’s your chance to be heard—and to enjoy some coffee and a movie. Pollard Library Director, Victoria Woodley, will be hosting an open forum conversation with patrons over coffee on the first Friday of the month beginning in April. “We’re trying to find ways to better connect with our patrons,” Woodley said, “to communicate with them about the materials, programs and services we offer and to learn from them how we can better serve their needs. What better way to do this than by having a chat over coffee.” The open forum coffee with the director will run from 10AM to 11AM and patrons can stick around for a feature film beginning at 11AM. For more information about this first Friday form please contact Sean Thibodeau, Coordinator of Community Planning at sthibodeau@mvlc.org or 978-674-1542

Title:                          2013 Lowell Reads Micky Ward

Date:                        September 9th – 20th,  2013

Place:                       Pollard Memorial Library; 401 Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA

2013 LOWELL READS MICKY WARD
The Pollard Memorial Library is proud to announce its 2013 Lowell Reads Micky Ward program celebration. The aim of our annual Lowell Reads program is to get everyone in Lowell on the same page. We’re promoting literacy and fostering a better sense of community by creating an opportunity for Lowellians to engage with their neighbors in a meaningful discussion over the same story.

This year we’ve chosen not one but two books about Lowell’s own “Irish” Micky Ward. They are Irish Thunder: The Hard Life and Times of Micky Ward by Bob Halloran and A Warrior’s Heart: The True Story of Life Before and Beyond The Fighter by Micky Ward with Joe Layden.

Copies of these books are available for patrons to borrow from the Pollard Library. Patrons are encouraged to start a book discussion of their own with friends, family, neighbors or co-workers; or join us at one of our informal book discussions in the ground floor meeting room at the library (listed in the EVENTS section below). Please note, the books content and events are for TEENS and ADULTS. Unless otherwise noted, events will occur in the library’s ground floor meeting room. All events are free and open to the public. Program attendees will have the chance to enter to win a boxing glove autographed by Micky Ward. Winners announced at the Wrap-Up party, Friday September 20th.
