Did you know over 100 billion pounds of food goes to waste each year? That’s almost 20% of America’s entire food supply. Would you like to help reduce this number? Then come to Farmer Dave’s “Let’s Get Gleaning.”
What is Gleaning?
Gleaning is the act of collecting left over crops from farmers’ fields after they have been commercially harvested. The collected food is then donated to shelters and food banks. Farmers contact gleaning organizations, giving them 24-48 hours’ notice to get a group of gleaners together to harvest as much as possible before they sow new seeds.
The goal of this event is to spread the word about gleaning to everyone in the Merrimack Valley and throughout Massachusetts.
The event will take place Wednesday, October 3rd at 9:30am. It will be at 437 Parker Road, Dracut, MA.
