Thursday morning, the City of Lowell, working in partnership with its contractors, successfully removed the temporary bridge between Jackson Street and Canal Street in the Hamilton Canal District.
The temporary bridge over the Hamilton Canal, provided by MassDOT, served for several years as the only vehicular connection for the rehabbed Appleton Mills and the Freudenberg Building, the large commercial space at 110 Canal Street that is ramping up for redevelopment. The removal of the temporary bridge is the last major piece of the $4 million redevelopment of Jackson Street and the creation of a new Canal Street bridge.
As the project winds down over the next 3-4 weeks, Lowell residents and visitors will notice the canal walk completed and the intersection repaved. Below are photos of the bridge removal provided by Sopheak Sam and Marianne Gries.
