If you want an opinion on what’s hot, who better to ask than a firefighter? Wendy’s apparently agrees and chose the Lowell Fire Department to be featured in a series of Wendy’s ads featuring their spicy chicken sandwich. The ads were filmed in August over a period of days. Our firefighters weren’t let in on the fact that they were being filmed for an ad in keeping with Wendy’s premise that “you know when it’s real”. They wanted honest reactions from real-life heroes on the spicy chicken sandwich. Wendy’s loved what they saw and used the footage in the ad, which will be run on both TV and radio.
The ads were launched over Labor Day weekend on ESPN and radio. Featured in the ads at the Branch St. Station are firefighters Lt. Mike Boldrighini, Lt. Arthur Calavritinos, Lt. Keith Poirier, Lt. Jim Hamilton, FF Anthony Cronk, FF Bennie Cooper, FF Walter Humphrey, and FF Hans Weber. The ads will run for the 13 weeks and could be extended. Check it out here and what better week to pay tribute to our local firefighters than this the anniversary of 9-11.

The major problem with the ad is that the Lowell firefighter starts his sentence “Me and the boys ….” Lousy grammar is a turn off to anybody including prospective Wendy’s customers and to fans of Lowell firefighters. To me it is insulting that Wendy’s would want people to think that Lowell firefighters don’t know how to speak English correctly.
I love this comercial!! Tom you obviously are not from around here. This is the way we talk here, and it has nothing to do with not being educated. It comes from our heritage. It is our unique ” accent ” and we love it.
Carol, I dont mind his accent but his grammar is lousy and it offends me too. Perhaps your fire fighters are educated but this one apparently forgot one of the simple rules of basic grammar. I’m surprised that Wendy’s Corp. lets this commercial run and be repeated so many annoying times.
Tom and Phil P.,
I noticed your comments were lacking a few simple punctuations and filled with run-ons. Kinda ironic, don’t ya think? If something as silly and trivial as improper grammar in a TV ad offends you, then you’ve got issues! Oh man, i feel bad for your wives who gotta put up with you two everyday!! What a couple of stiffs!! lol
While I never lived in Lowell, I am one of the four last remaining Lowells in the world whom the city was named after…
It’s awesome to see that things are going well in Lowell after so many years of neglect and all. Keep up the great work! The City of Lowell should be might proud! I am!
‘Round here we like our chicken with a little heat…and we love this commercial! This is a phenomenal commercial, and I quote it every day. “YOU NEED A GOOD KICK!” HAHA I don’t understand humans who are offended about the grammar, it’s about people being real. Get a life you jackwagons…
LOVE IT!!!! Great seeing the Lowell Fire Fighters in this commercial. Cheers to many more.
