The assessing department announces the completion of the cyclical inspections in the Centralville section of the city. All properties in Centralville have been visited and most interior inspections have been done. Only those properties that interior inspections are awaiting appointments need visits. The Pawtucketville section was completed last winter.
The assessing personnel are now performing these cyclical inspections in the Belvidere section of the city. They have started these inspections near the Tewksbury line and will work their way toward the center of the city.
The cyclical inspections are mandated by the Department of Revenue and this project is beneficial to both the taxpayer and the assessing department to ensure accurate and equitable assessments. The entire process takes between 10 and 20 minutes: an inspector knocks on the door, if there is no one home, they will measure the outside of the property, take a picture and leave a door hanger requesting the property owner call for an appointment. If they owner is home at the time, the inspection can take place then and the process is complete. Each inspector is an Assessor or an Assistant Assessor, and works directly for the City of Lowell. The entire cyclical inspection project is being done in-house.
Any questions, concerns, complaints or compliments should be directed to the Chief Assessor at (978) 970-4200.
