In response to Council Caulfield’s motion regarding business retention in the City, City Manager Lynch took the opportunity to present the Council with a brief presentation on the positive economic development trends in the City despite a difficult economy. The City of Lowell mirrors trends regionally in terms of unemployment and has held a strong presence when compared regionally in terms of Class A office vacancy and the avoidance of large-scale layoffs. The City has been able to attract a number of businesses over the last few years including Nobis, Kadient, Cristek Interconnects and Lowe’s. The Economic Development office provides a number of services including outreach to brokers and property owners, technical assistance and resources, and expedited permitting services to meet real estate and occupational regulatory compliance.
